The Story: Sel des Alpes®, the Swiss Alpine Salt
Legend has it that half a millennium ago goats led their shepherd to a hidden treasure — a source of water infused with salt. Drawn back time and again, the shepherd uncovered nature’s secret: salt locked deep within the mountain. Since then, our SEL DES ALPES has been carefully washed from these ancient rocks, enriching meals with the pure essence of the Alps.

Centuries of Swiss history
You have to go back to the 15th century to find the discovery of the saline spring of Bex, a small Swiss town at the foot of a majestic alpine circus, a stone's throw from Lake Geneva.
Every day, white gold miners descended into the mine to extract salty rock fragments, creating a vast labyrinth of tunnels over the centuries.
About 200 million years ago, the earth's geography was completely different from today. The Alps did not yet exist and a shallow sea covered all of Europe. The tropical climate caused the water to slowly evaporate, leaving salt deposits on the ground.
Later, when the Alps began to rise, their rocky waves swallowed up these masses of salt. Under the combined effect of high pressure and intense deformation, these precious crystals began to mix with the surrounding rock.
Thus protected, they slept for millions of years, protected from all pollution.
